Event Partner • In 1971, a group of Hispanics formed an organization to help new arrivals adjust to the area.  They intended to create a unifying voice to foster the progress of all Hispanics in the community, acknowledging their diversity in countries of origin, ethnicity, cultural preferences and beliefs.  Utilizing space at various local churches, “Spanish Speaking Special Services” was a magnet for families who needed advice, help with resettlement, and English classes.

Inclusion of School Stakeholders • Students: • Developing the signs and posters with teachers’ help • Taking turns to help direct the guests during the event night • When off-duty, participating with the childcare activities • Teachers: • Facilitators while preparing activities and during the event • Acting as liaison between school, parents and community members

Inclusion of School Stakeholders • Parents: • Attending classes to prepare for their activities • Attending the event and engaging in conversations about human rights with their children • Community: • Local media will cover the event • Local authorities will attend and receive feedback from the activities

  11. Introduction • Guests will be directed to the School Library for the initial introduction and explanation of the event (translator will be provided). • Guests will be handed out a list of all the events available to them and a school map showing the location of the events.

  12. Translators / Bilingual Educators • Guests will be encouraged to go to the Art room to receive help in filling out the forms for immigration and the drivers licenses.

  14. Child Care • Children will be invited to go to the cafeteria for free activities and snacks. • Parents will sign the children in and out. • Bilingual staff will be available.
