  1. HV issues for Run2B siliconA.Nomerotski 10/15/01 • rad hardness = have enough bias to deplete silicon • rad damaged detectors will develop current ~ several mA (strong function of T) • different detectors could have different behavior (look at Run2A SMT) • ideally need one HV channel per sensor • compromise at one HV channel per hybrid • will have up to 4 sensors per HV channel in L4-5, 2 sensors in L1 • need total 888 channels • if upgrade existing BiRa • have 232 “+” and 152 “-” channels, HV split between ~4 HDIs • specs 2-5 kV, 2-3 mA : current marginally ok • new channels $910/channel (from R.Hance) - includes pods, motherboard, crate+PS, CPU • need to buy 656 pods, can use motherboards & crates of “-” supplies • anyway total >$500k (!) • need to buy asap, design uses obsolete parts • redesign will require Fermilab manpower • bottom line : price looks almost prohibitive, need splitting to reduce the total count

  2. Other possibilities : CAEN • SY1527 • crate with16 slots • controller with TCP/IP • software libraries in C, C++, Java • A1835 • 1.5 kA, 7 mA/0.2 mA (dual range) • V/I monitoring • V/I trip settings • 28 ch/board, 8 boards/crate • 888 ch = 4 crates, 32 boards • total $226k, ~$250/channel • CMS endcap muons • design by SPINP, $75/channel (?) • consider CAEN as well • Can use for Run2A ? Delivery time 12 weeks
