Objectives • Students will be able to: • Identify basic garden tools • Select the proper tools for a given project
Basic Garden Tools • Rake • Shovel • Pruner • Trowel • Hoe • Wheelbarrow • Hose • Etc.
Rakes • For use with moving debris • Aids in the cleaning process • Proper use is with two (2) hands

Pruner Bypass Pruners • Two types of pruners • Bypass • Anvil Anvil Pruners
Trowels • Uses • To aid in the planting of medium to large plants. • Moves small amount of dirt • For use with one hand while holding a plant in the other
Shovels • Two types of shovels • Round point • Used primarily for digging holes • Square point • Better used for picking up trash and debris

Square Shovel Continued • This is a different type of square shovel. • The size is much larger and can pick up much more debris. • The handle is much shorter with a different grip.
Garden Hoe • Used to cultivate the soil • Removes weeds
Steel Head Garden Cultivator • Uses • Cultivates the soil • Remove weeds • Allows oxygen to penetrate the soil
Wheelbarrow • Used primarily to move heavy things from one place to another • Can be used to hold trash • Can also be used to make cement in
Rubber Hose • Main purpose is to deliver water from one place to another
Nozzles • Uses • To water plants • Control direction of spray • Different ends allow different amounts of water
