  2. Background • The story is told from Jesse smokes point of view • Jesse has two sisters and a mother • He has attended a mission school but decided to stay with his Family. paperbackswap.com

  3. Story Plot • Jesse and his family live on a farm • The family makes there living off of the farm raising animals • They are forced to live like white people although they keep their native traditions foresthistory.org

  4. Story Plot • Before the migration the white men confiscated all guns from the Indians. • The White men began to force Indians west. • During the initial move they would burn houses or have the white men move in the houses before the natives were moved out.

  5. The Trail of tears • During the move to the camps they were not given proper supplies. • They were charged at toll gates throughout the trip. • Each day they traveled a different distance. • Every morning another person was buried on the roadside.

  6. Trail of tears • During the trip Jesse met white Will, he gave Jesse a knife for the trip. • White will was a young soldier • He would find Jesse throughout the trip and help him out. • Although the trip was extremely hard Jesse’s family managed to stay healthy and survive.

  7. Trail of tears • Along the trail they stopped at 6 different camps • These camps were in harsh conditions and they were crammed in them. • The tribe had Hunters go ahead of them and have food when they arrived.

  9. Trail of tears • Approximately 4,000 people died on the trip. • Jesse smoke and his tribe ended up in what is now Oklahoma. • The entire trip was 800 to 1,200 miles long. • They made the trip in about 80 days.

  10. My Connection • I have a small amount of Cherokee Indian in me. • I have always been a fan of stories from the past.
