  2. Childhood James Cleveland Jesse Owens born on September 12, 1913. Owens was the youngest of 10 children,3 girls and 6 boys, born to Henry Cleveland Owens and Mary Emma Fitzgerald. In his childhood he was known as J.C . He became known as Jesse when a teacher misheard his name.

  3. Adult life • Owens went to Ohio State University . • He was an NCAA champion . • Owens was name the Buck-eye Bullet because he was so incredibly fast.

  4. Olympian Owens was an American track and field athlete who specialized in the sprints and the long jump. He participated in the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany, where he achieved international fame by winning four gold medals one each in the 100 meters, the 200 meters, the long jump and as part of the 4x100 meter relay team. All within 45 minutes. A myth arose that Hitler snubbed him but it was actually the President of the USA who did not invite him to the Whitehouse or publically acknowledge his amazing achievements.

After death • Date of death : 31th March 1980. • He died due to lung cancer. • He died at age 66. • Racism has decreased. • The Jesse Owens Award, USA Track and Field's highest accolade for the year's best track and field athlete, is named after him, in honour of his significant career. • If you want to find out more there is an official Jesse Owens website.
