  4. Characteristics • Emotional • Good stories-often tragic, high interest • Sex, murder, etc. • “Unbelievable” plots • Catchy, memorable songs • Requires talented singers • Usually left in the original language • otherwise it loses too much • E.g. Dido’s Lamentby Purcell
