  4. 2002 – 2003 Funding Objectives • Meet both undergraduate and graduate enrollment targets • Increase quality of undergraduate education • Provide support for Research I initiatives through new program implementation, program review and faculty recruitment and support

  5. 1. Enrollment Targets • Projected Fall 2002 headcount enrollment • 27,400 undergraduate students • 6,560 graduate & certificates students • Total headcount 34,000

  6. Enrollment Targets - continued • New degree-seeking students entering FIU during 2002-2003 (Summer, Fall & Spring): • 3,700 first time in college (FTIC) students • 4,700 transfer students • 2,300 graduate students Total new degree-seeking students 10,700

  7. Enrollment Targets - continued • 776,000 undergraduate student credit hours • 24,000 graduate student credit hours Total 800,000 student credit hours will be generated

  11. 2.Increase Quality of Undergraduate Education • Increase SAT scores from 1149 to 1170 for Fall 2003 • Expand Honors College • Target recruitment of Valedictorians, Salutatorians and Merit students • Increase scholarship funding • Enhance strength of undergraduate curriculum

  12. 3. Support for Research I Initiatives • Implementation of new academic programs in 2002-03: • Bachelors: • Asian Studies • Biomedical Engineering • Marine Biology • Masters: • Materials Science & Engineering • Technology Management • Telecommunications & Networking

  13. Support for Research I Initiatives - continued • Increased external research funding by $7 million • Increased research funding for areas such as: • Biomedical engineering • Information technology • Nanotechnology
