Welcome to Bulgaria • There is a magic place on the Balkan Peninsula which has has been accumulating history and culture for over 1300 years. • A piece of heaven , gifted with clean rivers , beautiful forests and mountains , unforgettable caves and deep valleys. • Some people call it a cultural treasure which has contributed to the unique diversity of the human race. • Welcome to Bulgaria! It is famous for its beautiful nature , hospitable people and delicious food. • Food in my country is very important to people . It is a kind of reflection of our way of living , customs, traditions and believes . All of them had been set hundreds of years ago by our ancestors . What has preserved them for ages are books and paintings. • So, It will be interesting to see how Food has taken a look in the mirror if Art and Literature. • If you happen to open the golden chest of Bulgarian Literature you will meet plain , poor and suffering people . So is their food. • Bread used to be a main part of the Bulgarian repast . It was handmade . It was also baked in special pottery ovens and taken out when ready with long shovels. • There is a round kind of bread called “pitka” .It is prepared on special occasions.

There is a figure in Bulgarian history, which we consider to be a link between food and Bulgarian literature, PetkoRachovSlaveykov.He writes the first Bulgarian cookbook with 250 recipes titled "Cooking book or instruction for all dishes according to how they do in Constantinople, and miscellaneous household reference ".
