  2. Freshmen Registration Process Monday, February 13th – Registration materials distributed to 8th graders Friday, February 17th – Online registration completed at OMS with Ms. Erickson

Graduation Requirements OHS Graduation requirements 4 yr college minimum course requirements • English 4 credits • Math 3 credits • Science 2 credits • Social Studies 4 credits • Physical Education 1.5 credits • Health .5 credits • Computer Apps .5 credits • Financial Planning .5credits • Electives 9.5credits Total 25.5 credits • English 4 credits • Math (Alg I, Geom, Alg II) 3 credits • Science (lab science) 3 credits • Social Studies 3 credits • Electives 4 credits (fine arts, computers, or other areas) • Foreign Language 2 credits (2 yrs of the same language is strongly advised and is required by some universities) It is strongly recommended that students exceed minimum course requirements.

  4. Grading System • Grades are averaged after each semester to calculate your child’s grade point average (GPA) • Each teacher utilizes their own grading scale A 4.0 A- 3.67 B+ 3.33 B 3.0 B- 2.67 C+ 2.33 C 2.0 C- 1.67 D+ 1.33 D 1.0 D- 0.67 F 0.0

  5. Class Rank = GPA x Credits OHS ranks students based on quantity of courses and quality of grades 4 year colleges use class rank as part of the college admissions process Example of a student’s class rank: 24/145 = Top 17% UW Madison = Top 15% UW River Falls = Top 40%

Freshmen Registration Sheets Freshmen Requirements Tips for registration • Band and Choir – audition for placement • Math – teacher approval • Foreign Language – not required for graduation, but 2 yrs may be required by 4 yr colleges • Study Halls – do not earn grade or credit, but opportunity for students to complete homework and/or work with tutor

  8. Who Should Take a Study Hall? If your child needs to improve their grades or get additional help. If your child is currently in the STAR Program. If your child is currently earning D’S and F’s. If your child struggles to complete homework. If your child never brings homework home. Structured study halls and/or peer tutors are available for students to receive additional help. If your child’s performance on the MAPS tests determines the need for additional support through RtI (Response to Intervention), your child will be placed in a study hall.
