Welcome • The missionof Alliance Tennenbaum Family Technology High School is to operate a small high performance school that will prepare all students to enter and succeed in college. • The vision of Alliance Tennenbaum Family Technology High School is to create a highly accountable model of innovation with highly qualified teachers … and graduates prepared to succeed in college and life as 21st century learners. • Our core values are: high expectations for all students, small personalized learning environments, increased instructional time, highly qualified educators, and parents as partners.

Goals for 2013-2014 • Increase Academic Performance Index of by at least 50 points (up to 800 in 2 years) • Increase % students who score Proficient & Advanced the California Standards Tests and CAHSEE in all subjects • Increase our graduation rate and 4-year college acceptance rate until it reaches 100%! • Increase enrollment to 500, parent & student satisfaction to 4, and parental involvement to 40 hours for all families!

Expectations: All IN, full blast! • Always show respect (communication, relationships, presentations, time, electronic devices, etc.) • Lead when needed and follow when needed. • Listen carefully to your colleagues, assume best intentions of others, and seek to understand. • I will get out of this what I put into it, so I will be a positive and active participant. • Never stop learning. Learn something new every day.

Curriculum & Instruction • Blended learning, all courses meet A-G requirements for college • Textbooks are digital, access is online • Laptops in the classroom…coming soon iPads for each student! • Homework assigned Monday-Thursday, at least 30 minutes per class attended (not including Advisory • Advanced Placement classes will have a 2 hour/week tutoring requirement

Daily supplies • Backpack or shoulder bag • 1 ½ or 2 in. 3-ring binder with loose leaf paper and 4-6 dividers • 3-4 black or blue pens and pencils • USB flash drive (at least 2 GB) • Student planner (provided by school)

ATTendance • Ten (10) consecutive absences will result in the student losing credit for his/her classes. • Protocol for Excessive absences • Poor attendance to school is considered a characteristic of a student who is not college-ready. When absences become excessive the following measures will be implemented: • 3 absences = Parent Conference with Attendance Clerk • 5 absences = Parent Conference with Counselor • 7 Absences = P.C. with Administration & Probationary Contract Placement. School Attendance Review Team (SART). • 9 unexcused absences = School Attendance Review Board (SARB).

DRESS CODE • Uniform Policy • In the 2013 – 2014 school year, each grade level will be wearing a different color of shirt; the colors will be shades of grey. • 9thgrade will be in ash grey. • 10thgrade will be in sport grey. • The 11th grade in charcoal grey and 12th graders will be in Black. • Students will only be able to purchase uniform shirts if they earned the proper number of credits to be in that grade level. • * Any student found not in the appropriate uniform or out of dress code is subject to disciplinary action. • 10thgrade students will need 55 credits. • 11th grade students will need 115 credits. • 12th grade students will need 175 credits. • In order to be in compliance with the Alliance Uniform Policy, the only sweatshirts, jackets, sport coats/blazer, sweaters and vest students will be able to wear will be purchased at the school and must bear an embroidered school logo. Students may purchase a school logo patch, which must be sowed onto a solid black or grey zipper jacket or sweater. Students will not be able to wear their own outerwear for the 2013 - 2014 school year. In addition, all accessories including but not limited to ties, socks, belts, t-shirts, shoelaces, and shoes must be black, white, grey or any combination of the three colors. Students at each Alliance campus must adhere to a strict uniform policy.

The specific uniform required for Tennenbaum Family Technology High School is as follows and applies to all students: • Tops: Every Student must wear a short sleeve/ long sleeve Tenn Tech logo dress or polo shirt. Full- zipper or full button jacket or sweater • Bottoms: Solid black dress pants/slacks that are well-sized relaxed fit, skirts/shorts at knee-length and dress style, not casual, cut-off or cargo. • Tucked in Shirts: All uniform shirts will be tucked in for the entire day, while on school grounds and/or school activities. • Skirts & Shorts: If wearing skirts or shorts, they must be knee-length. • Clothing Size: Relaxing fit, including pants and shirts, should not be tightly fitted or no larger than one size of the student’s regular clothing size • Undershirts: Only black, white or grey solid undershirts will be permitted • Footwear: Black, white or gray shoes. All footwear must have closed toes and heel straps. No house shoes, slippers, or sandals of any kind are allowed • Accessories: Head/hair wear such as ribbons, headbands, and clips must be black, white or gray • Spirit Shirts:Tenn Tech t-shirts bearing the school crest, any college or university t-shirt

The following clothing items are explicitly prohibited for all students: • Any pants other than dress pants/slacks or uniform pants • Inappropriately tight and/or short clothing as determined by administration • Low-rise and/or hip-hugger pants • Tights / leggings worn as pants • Clothing with holes, especially if they reveal flesh • Open-toed shoes • Caps, hats, bandanas, hoods, and beanies • Pull-over sweatshirts regardless of color • Clothing worn inside out • Any clothing that does not properly cover the body • Any clothing that may be construed as having gang –affiliation (colored shoelaces, initialed belt buckles, cut-out belts, “sagging”/oversized clothing, etc.)

Discipline • Code Of Conduct • Student responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: • Following all rules of behavior and conduct. • Respecting fellow students and school personnel. • Search and seizures • Attending classes regularly and on time. • Completing all assigned work (to the best of the student’s ability). • Being prepared for class (bring materials e.g. books, homework). • Participating in all assessment measures (e.g. tests). • Respecting the property of the school and others. • Keeping the campus clean. • Wearing school uniform. Parents will be called regarding the school uniform policy.

Parent compact • Parents as Partners  • Alliance parents are committed to working in partnership with their child’s school. • Each Alliance Parent will have an opportunity to complete 40 hours of parent volunteer time each school year. • We will have monthly parent workshops throughout the school year • Parents are committed to attend at least 4 parent workshops each school year. • We will have monthly Parent/Community Townhall meetings where parents will be able discuss topics related to achieving the school’s goals.

There are many ways to complete parent hours: • Reading and Signing School Flyers • Attending parent workshops • Attending parent/community Townhall meetings • Attending any school events (back to school night, open house, parent/teacher conferences, etc.) • Helping in the parents center (room 107) • Using Tenn Tech’s coupon book
