Attention students! April has arrived with unique reading assignments and class updates. Please note there are no classes on April 1st—April Fools! Throughout the week, you will engage with *Hatchet*, *Alabama Moon*, *Walk Two Moons*, and *Where the Red Fern Grows*. Expect to complete character analyses and journal entries connecting your experiences with the stories. Be prepared with your books, writing materials, and ideas. Don't forget to turn in your reading logs and assignments to the designated boxes on time. Let's make this a productive month!

Tuesday, April 1st –NO CLASS TODAY! • APRIL FOOLS!!!!!!  • Hatchet (meets 1st—get your book, paper, and pencil, and come to the back table.) & Alabama Moon (meets 2nd—stay at your desk and read your next chapters) • Walk Two Moons & Where the Red Fern Grows written assignment: Pick up an index card. Choose 1 character to complete a 3-2-1 character analysis: • 3 important events that have happened to this character • 2 questions you would ask this character if you could talk to him/her • 1 way in which you are like this character TURN THIS IN TO THE BOX BEFORE YOU LEAVE CLASS.

Did you get it? Was it worth waiting for? • Journal entry for Walk Two Moons (5-8 sentences): • Write about a “taste” or “sound“ sparked memory. Was it a food? A song? Be descriptive.

What effect do these “breaks” have on the story? • Journal entry for Alabama Moon (5-8 sentences): • Pap says, “Because we never asked for anything and nobody ever gave us anything, we don’t owe anything to anybody.” Do you agree with this philosophy? Explain your answer.
