  2. CIPA Review CIPA – Children’s Internet Protection Act Signed into law December 21, 2000 Compliance required by the FCC in order to receive E-Rate discounts ALL E-Rate applicants should already be CIPA compliant.

What is required for compliance • Internet Safety Policy – adopted by your Board of Trustees • Technology Protection Measure – the means by which you are filtering your internet • Public Notice and Hearing/Meeting – provides opportunity for the public to comment on the filtering of the internet If you cannot locate the proof that ALL of the above steps have been done, it is recommended that you “re-do” the 3 step process by June 30, 2012. New Certifications: Protecting Children in the 21st Century Act Quoted from USAC: Note: beginning July 1, 2012, when schools certify their compliance with CIPA, they will also be certifying that their Internet safety policies have been updated to provide for educating minors about appropriate online behavior, including interacting with other individuals on social networking websites and in chat rooms, cyberbullying awareness, and response.
