WHY START A CHAPTER • VALVE FOR THE STUDENT: • Teamwork and Leadership Development • Reinforcement of employability skills • Nationally recognized contest program • Access to scholarships • Networking with potential employers • OPPORTUNTIES FOR THE STUDENT: • Fall Leadership Conference • Local, Regional, State and National Competitions • Local projects – Social, Community Service, Employment, Public Relations • Hold an office – Leadership Development • Empowerment • Serve on Communities

  4. WHY START A CHAPTER • VALUE FOR THE CLASSROOM AND SCHOOL: • Recognition for the school within the community • Opportunities to meet educational standards • Development of Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways • Recruitment tool • More graduates equipped with essential soft skills

WHY START A CHAPTER • VALUE FOR YOU, THE TEACHER: • Enhanced technical curriculum • Improved class attitudes • A way to test and measure student skills • Avenues for local industry support • Opportunities to showcase CTE pathways • Greater administrative support • Professional Development and networking

STEPS TO STARTING A CHAPTER SECURE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION SUPPORT: Ask national organization for a flyer to present to the administration with keys points Set up a meeting with the administration (30 minutes) CTO’s makes a difference in student performance National Membership Real-World Laboratory for Learning Programs offered by the organization Business Partners Competitions

ESTABLISH A CHAPTER • Apply for a state charter • Develop a constitution • Contact state director and asked to be included on state mailing list • Contact State and National Office to request resource materials. • Ask for a membership kit from the National Office • REGISTER YOURSELF AND STUDENT MEMBERS • Complete memberships form • Collect and pay your dues

  9. HOLD CHAPER MEETINGS Introduce CTO to students a. If you have students from previous year available – have them help introduce the CTO. Use a previous years national video. Plan and publish an agenda for each monthly meeting a. Elected officers with your assistance can complete this task. b. Use the national program of work as a guideline for planning the meeting. c. Plan for social time and food for the end of the meeting if allowed by the school administration. d. Invite state officers to visit your school for a meeting. Do not meeting unless you have a reason to meet.

  10. STEPS TO STARTING A CHAPTER With Administrative approval Get the students excited: 1. How will it help the student be better skilled in the workplace? a. Identify top 10 employability skills b. Classroom benefit – Team Projects, Hands-on opportunities, applied learning (to the real world) 2. Opportunities available in CTO. a. Peer interaction – local, state, national b. Develop leadership skills c. Participation in competitions
