  8. Workforce ReadinessPre - Screening • Students Must Pass a Drug Test • Students Must Get a Physical Exam and Obtain a Medical Card • Students Must Take DWS Skills Proficiency Tests • Students Must have Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Western Energy Training Center

Workforce ReadinessOrientation ERM – 101 • History - Students will learn the history of energy and associated technical trades • Energy Sources - Students will learn of the different sources for energy generation, transmission & distribution • Economic Value - Students will report on the economic value of industry to the growth and well being of their communities Western Energy Training Center

Career Portfolio – Night Class ERM 107 – Portfolio • Leather Portfolio – Students will include the following: • Resume’ • Work History • Letters of Recommendation • Certificates/Licenses • Job Application Processes – Students will prepare for job interviews and other steps in the hiring process Western Energy Training Center

  12. Workforce ReadinessFireside Chats ERM – 100 • Careers – Students attend a comprehensive orientation to technical careers in the energy, transportation and construction industries • Experts - Students will meet with subject matter experts & industry workers Western Energy Training Center

Workforce Readiness Interpersonal Skills – Night Class PSY 101 – Human Relations • Behaviors: At night students will attend a human relations class to address interpersonal relationships and behaviors. • Attitudes: This course addresses how personal behavior affects crew performance and workplace attitudes. Themes and Core Competencies Heavy Equipment • Forklifts & Stationary Cranes – Load and Unload Pallets/Bins • Backhoe – Dig a Short Trench & Backfill • Loader – Move a Pile of Dirt, Load a Bin • D-6 Dozer – Push Dirt, Level a Job Site • Road Grader – Grade a Job Site/Road • Dump Truck – Set Up and Dump a Load Western Energy Training Center

Themes and Core Competencies Other Equipment • Log Splitter – Start a generator, Operate Hydraulic Controls, Split Firewood • Pump – Set up and start a slurry/trash pump, pump water from a hole/pit • Air Compressor – Blow air through a radiator, inflate a tire, run an impact wrench • Compactor – Compact around a pipe casing in a trench using a Whacker/Dyna Packer Western Energy Training Center

Themes and Core Competencies Driving • Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class B – Operate a Semi Truck/Tractor and Trailer • Pickup Truck – Drive a Standard Transmission, Back a trailer, Hitch and Unhitch a trailer, Secure a Load, Change a Tire, Off-Road Driving • Defensive Driving – Participate in and complete a hands-on driving course that evaluates driving decisions and maneuvers Western Energy Training Center

Themes and Core Competencies Flagging • Direct Traffic – Use signs, hand signals and radios to re-route/direct traffic in a construction zone • Assist a Driver/Operator – Use standard hand signals to help a driver back a trailer or to help an equipment operator perform tasks Western Energy Training Center

Themes and Core Competencies Hand Excavation • Shoveling, Flat Nosed – Shovel coal into a wheel barrow or onto a mine belt • Shoveling, Spade – Dig a posthole & set a post, dig a thrust-block hole in a trench, fill sand bags • Locate a Line – Using blue stakes markings, dig down and locate an underground pipeline • Level a Basement Floor – Using a rake, shovel, wheel barrow, compactor & transit, level and compact a basement floor Western Energy Training Center

Themes and Core Competencies Fire Safety • Fire Extinguishers – Identify the correct fire extinguisher to use and put out a fire • Fire Hydrants – Attach a hose to a fire hydrant and spray dust from an area • Emergency Action Plans – Follow an emergency action plan and meet in a designated area Western Energy Training Center

Students will earn a First Aid Card • CPR/AED – Administer CPR and attach a defibrillator to adults, children and infants Students will earn a CPR/AED Card • Blood Borne Pathogens – Students will have a basic awareness of blood borne pathogens Western Energy Training Center

  33. Certifications/Licenses • Commercial Driver License (CDL) – All students will be required to earn a class B license to complete the course. All students will be strongly encouraged to earn a class A license with endorsements during the 8 week course. Those students who were not able to earn a class A license during the regular course may choose to continue training for a Class A license with endorsements. • MSHA Part 48 Miner Training - New Miner Training for Underground – Coal or Metal/Non-Metal • UDOT Flagger Certification Card • Fire Extinguisher Card • First Aid Card • CPR/AED Defibrillator Card • Energy Workforce Basic Work Readiness Certificate Western Energy Training Center

  35. Evaluations • Rodeos - Students demonstrate skills for instructors, students, employers and program partners during competency “Rodeos” • Score Cards – Evaluations of more than 60 competenciesare included on the back of the Workforce Readiness Certificate Western Energy Training Center

  36. Phase 2 8 Week Internship • Employers commit to hire students upon completion of phase 1 • Employers and Community sponsors (DWS etc.) evaluate student performance in the workplace and give suggestions for improvement in the learning process Western Energy Training Center
