  2. Welcome to RACC • RACC has just been graded Outstanding by Ofsted for the second time. • You have joined a community of approximately 10,000 learners. For this reason, we will not give you copies of this presentation to keep, but it will be available online. • Please jot down any information you would like to keep.

  4. Facilities Location of toilets: (tutor to supply details). Refreshments: The canteen at the Clifdensite offers hot meals, sandwiches, drinks and snacks. There is a water dispenser in the main corridor, near stairwell (B?). At the Parkshotsite, drinks and snacks are available, and there are a number of shops and cafes nearby. There is a water dispenser in the coffee area.

  7. Attendance • Regular attendance is very important. If you do have to miss a session, please let your tutor know by emailing, or leaving a message with reception. Your tutor will let you know how you can obtain handouts/ information from the session.

  8. Health and Safety Quick quiz: • Where can you find information about what to do in the event of a fire?

  9. Answer: There is a notice in each classroom giving emergency exit routes and assembly points Please choose a volunteer to read out the information in this room. Please inform your tutor if you need help leaving the building.

  10. Quick Quiz continued • What would you do if you spotted a hazard e.g. a wire poking out of a wall? • Avoid it – you don’t want to hurt yourself! • Get a screwdriver, and try to mend it. c) Report it – to the tutor, reception or any member of RACC staff.

  11. Answer: a) and c). We are all responsible for our own and other people’s safety. Please report anything which you think may be a hazard.

  12. First Aid First Aid boxes are kept at Reception, Caretaker offices, the canteen and most art studios.

  13. Adult Safeguarding and Child Protection • You have the right to feel safe where you learn. • If you think you have been hurt or abused by another learner, member of staff or visitor, you should report this as soon as possible. Ask your tutor or Reception staff to put you in touch with one of the College’s Safeguarding Officers.

Information, Advice and Guidance • The College has a qualified careers adviser to offer you free advice and guidance on learning, work and progression.  • Where: • Learning Resource Centre at the Parkshot site, Richmond. Mon – Thurs 9 am – 5 pm • ALS Room (above Reception) at the Clifden site, Twickenham. Fri 9 am – 12 noon

  19. moodle • The college has a Virtual Learning Environment called moodle. All RACC staff and learners can access this, and it has lots of resources and information. • Some tutors have additional course resources on the moodle, and your tutor will tell you if this is the case.

  20. To access moodle Type in the following address: http://moodle.racc.ac.uk/ At the login page, type your username (student number - supplied at enrolment) and your date of birth e.g. 02/07/1969 must be typed in as 02071969

  21. Use of IT at the college • Please turn to page 15 in the Learner Handbook, and read the section on “Use of Information and Communication Technology”. • Key points are that you are responsible for making back-ups of all your work, and that you should make sure you take data sticks etc away with you.

  22. All staff and learners at the College are expected to value and celebrate the diversity brought into the College.

Equality and Diversity • We hold various events during the year which celebrate the experiences of our learners, including exhibitions, competitions, taster courses and celebrations of achievement. • Your tutor will let you know about upcoming events, but please also check our website and look on our noticeboards.

Other ways you can feed back: • A class representative will be invited to a termly Learner Forum meeting. • You will be asked to complete a course evaluation towards the end of your course. • If you have tutorial sessions, you can feed back to your tutor about your own progress, or any comments about the course or the college.
