This issue paper discusses the critical debate surrounding school nutrition standards in light of the SNA's position in 2008. While Chairman Harkin's proposal aims for the national uniformity of dietary guidelines to ensure that all students receive essential nutrients, the SNA's lack of support raises questions about its credibility. Key points include an overview of the Harkin Amendment, its co-sponsors, and the backing of numerous health organizations advocating for improved nutrition in schools. This paper emphasizes the need for a cohesive approach to promote student health amidst varied state standards.
