  2. What were the effects of original sin? ** It separated humans from God and gave us a tendency to sin.

  3. Why did humanity need a Savior? • Humans needed a Savior to fully restore friendship with God.

  4. What is the one way the prophet Isaiah described the Savior? • Isaiah described the Savior as a suffering servant.

  5. Why is Jesus the promised Savior? • As God’s own Son and the Son of Mary, Jesus was totally trusting and obedient to the will of the Father. Through his life, death, Resurrection, and Ascension, Jesus made it possible for humanity to share in God’s life again.

  6. Gospel • The good news about God at work in Jesus Christ.

  7. Why do we stand to hear the gospel at Mass? • Respect for God’s word. • Enthusiasm for the good news of Jesus.

  8. Lessons learned from the story of Cain and Abel: • The story is about the sacredness of human life. • It is about the separation of human beings. • It teaches us about respect for others and for life. • It tells us the healing power of God’s love.

  9. What does the biblical author want us to realize through the rejection of Cain’s gift? • The author is telling us that we cannot completely know and should not judge the ways of God.

  10. Why was God displeased with humanity? • They were not faithful stewards.

  11. What covenant did God make with Noah? • God’s forgiveness and love. • Humanity’s goodness can overcome evil. • All people are called to friendship with God.

  12. What is the symbolism of the rainbow? • It is a sign of God’s covenant with Noah and all humanity.

  13. What does the ark represent? • Both God’s love and the Church.

  14. The Story of the Tower of Babel • Found in Genesis 11:1-9. • “Babel” is the Hebrew name for Babylon. • Story is symbolic. • Story symbolizes the separation among different groups of people. • Symbolizes humanity’s loss of unity and the development of different languages.

  15. Humanity feared moving to other parts of the Earth. • Tower resembled a ‘ziggurat.’ • A ziggurat is made of a series of smaller and smaller brick platforms, one on top of the other. Long staircases led up to the various platforms and to the temple.
