  1. Soldering Scarlett Montanaro

  2. What is Solder? • Mixture of Tin and Lead • Electrical- 63%, 37% • Plumber- 50%, 50% • Lead Free Solder • Sn-93%, Ag-7% • Used to join to pieces of metal together • Low Melting Point

  3. Flux and Tinning Flux Tinning Cleans the oxide off the circuit/components Helps the solder stick to the metal Putting solder onto the tip of the soldering iron Helps to clean the soldering iron which helps the solder stick

  4. Soldering vs. Brazing vs. Welding • Differs in how much heat is used • The more heat, the stronger the product is • Welding uses the most heat and is strongest, soldering uses the least heat and is weakest

  5. Reading Resistors Black – 0 Brown – 1 Red – 2 Orange – 3 Yellow – 4 Green – 5 Blue – 6 Violet – 7 Gray – 8 White – 9 Silver +/- 10 % Gold +/- 5 % The Silver/ Gold Band should be on the right Read left to right The first two colors are just the numbers they correspond with The third band is the multiple of 10 you multiply the first two numbers by The gold/silver tell the accuracy • Green, Brown, Orange, Gold • Green = 5 • Brown = 1 • Orange = x103 • 51000 ohms +/- 5 %
