  1. GatesSonic TensionMeter 507C Measures Tension in Both V-Belts And Synchronous Belts NEW!

  2. STM 507C

  3. STM 507C Operation: 1. Attach sensor and power on. 2. Push “mass” key and enter belt unit weight in grams/meter. Unit weight can be found in the instruction manual, on the included reference card, or on Design Flex II printout 3. Push “width” key and enter width in mm for a synch belt. Number of strands for a V-belt. (Enter # of strands for a V-belt or PolyFlex/PolyFlex JB belt. Enter # of ribs for a Micro-V belt.) 4. Push “span” key and and enter span length in mm. (span length can be found on the Design Flex II printout or calculated using a formula found in the included instructional material). 5. Push the “measure” key. The green light below the number pad will begin flashing, indicating measurement in progress. 1 5 4 2 3

  4. 507C • Gates Design Flex II • Provides the target recommended values in lbs, Hz, and Newtons. • Also shows the constants to be entered in the 507C for the specific drive to be measured. Constants

  5. STM 507C • Frequency Filter Settings and Ranges A frequency filtering feature is available to focus the meter frequency measurement to a narrower range. This can improve the response of the meter. Holding down the “0” button for 1-2 seconds will display a menu that allows the freq measurement range to be changed. Default setting is the “Standard” range Freq range indicator

  6. Indicator lights STM 507C

  7. STM 507C • Pluck or tap the belt make the belt vibrate. In some cases, it may be necessary to tap the belt with the handle of a screwdriver or some other non-destructive device in order to achieve vibration sufficient enough to measure. In any case, take care not to damage the belt or other drive components.

  8. STM 507C • Hold the sensor approx. 3/8” from the belt. Do not touch the belt with the sensor. • The green light will turn off after a signal is received and remain off for approx. 1 to 2 secs. during calculation. The measured belt tension is then displayed. The meter then beeps 3 times, the green light turns on again and remains on until another signal is received. • If there is no reading, or a measurement error, the red light will turn on.

  9. Unit of measure STM 507C • Results can be displayed in 3 different units of measure, newtons, lbs, and kg. • To select the desired unit of measure, starting with the unit in the “off” mode, press and hold the 0 and 9 key, while simultaneously pressing the “power” key. Then the desired u/m can be selected by by pressing the “select” key until the desired dimension appears in the display. • Turning the STM off, then on again will return the STM to its normal operating mode. • To see the frequency value in Hz, select the “Hz” key; pressing the “Hz” key again redisplays the measured tension; pressing once more displays both

  10. STM 507C • Optional Inductive Sensor In situations where high noise or wind is present, or target frequency is very low, it can be difficult for the sonic meter to detect the belt’s vibration frequency. The inductive sensor may be used to obtain consistent and accurate readings in these conditions

  11. STM 507C • Optional Inductive Sensor The inductive sensor relies on a magnetic field rather than on sound waves. In order for the inductive sensor to function, a magnetic field must be present on the belt. This can be accomplished by taping a small, but sufficiently strong, magnet to the back of the belt Magnet taped to belt

  12. STM 507C • Optional Inductive Sensor Once the inductive sensor and the magnet are in place, the same procedure as the sonic sensor is used. The belt is “tapped” to cause it to vibrate. Then the sensor is held over the magnet until a signal is received. Signal is processed as previously described.

  13. STM 507C • Standard features: • 20 memory registers for constants • Max freq of 5000 Hz • Auto-gain control • 3 frequency range settings available • Auto-shutoff (10 min inactive) • Cord sensor • Batteries (2 AA) • Optional features: • Flexible sensor • Magnetic induction sensor (for use where ambient noise is high and/or wind noise may be significant)
