Campus Madolo’sRetreat • Madolo’s Retreat, former game lodge, 12 km from Alicedale, 120 km from main campus Port Alfred, 30 km Grahamstown • Situated on the edge of 5* Shamwari Game Reserve, in a real wildlife area, isolated with beautiful grounds. • Facilities/services: Double rooms (sharing) with private bathroom, rooms will be cleaned, fresh towels/linen, dining room, laundry, electricity, one classroom including library/computers, internet, public telephone, mail via Alicedale, leisure.

Wildlife Management • Campus Madolo’s Retreat • Excursions lectures, workshops and PBL should result in setting up your own Game Reserve. • Content: Environmental management in general and Wildlife Management specific • Lectures: rifle handling, bush walks, animal behaviour, alien plant removal, conservation, fishing reptiles, birds, mammals, fire & water management • Excursions/workshops: rifle practise, fishing, game drives, lion sanctuary

Communityempowerment • Get involved in the implementation of new projects in the townships of Port Alfred and assist in the development and improvement of the daily life. • Fourth year students of Art Therapy (CT), Social Work (SPH) and Teacher Training (OLB) have the opportunity to become actively involved with the daily worries and activities of the inhabitants of the township in Port Alfred. • Educating, enabling and empowering are at the core of Community Development • 33 projects: Child Welfare Society, the Port Alfred Hospital, working on the HIV/AIDS and ARV (Antiretroviral) programme, and working at Enkuthazweni School for the Disabled.

  14. Teacher training students: Students from the Teacher Training will mainly work at primary schools, and at the activity centre. The first module (10 weeks) you will educate children in either a ‘black’ ‘colored’ or ‘white’ school. Besides three days practice, you will also work for on assignments and prepare the lessons for the school days during the other two days. Example: designing computer lessons for the teachers at the primary schools. Furthermore you will have lessons to educate you about the history, culture and language of South Africa. Under the guidance of local academics and experts. Stendenfacilitates coaching, research assistance, transport and project allocation

CostsoverviewSouthAfrica Open forCosts • Wildlife Management All students € 1.242,00 • Community Empowerment OLB, SPH, CT € 2.345,00 (depends onduration) • Consider that there are some additional costs: vaccinations, visa, flight, insurances, daily living costs and GT fee. These costs depend on the period, the country and the duration of your stay abroad. Prices may fluctuate between semesters and academic years! • Costs are including: accommodation, cleaning, security, linen, airport transport (pick up/drop off) and F&B 3 times a day. • Grant: BIOS for OLB
