  3. AGENDA • JFK Take home test—Results. • Step-by-Step ACT English Passage • Timed Reading • Argument and Main Idea • Underlined portion • Underlined with answer choices

  6. ACT English – Step by Step • Read the entire passage at a brisk but comfortable reading speed. • When you are down, write down the number that appears on the screen. THIS IS IMPORTANT!

  18. Compute your reading rate. • Take the number of words read = 305 • Then, divide 305 by how many minutes you read (did you write down your number?) Example = 305 1.75 = @174 words per minute.

  19. Argument / Main Idea / Tone • Re-read the passage, one paragraph at a time ONLY. • Answer the questions (per paragraph) on the appropriate lines.

  20. Reading Underlined portion • Turn the sheet over. DO NOT, for any reason, TURN THE SHEET BACK TO THE FRONT SIDE. • Annotate any underlined portion that you think looks wrong, weird, or out-of-place.

  21. ACT English— “A Reflection on Bubbles” • Re-read the text quickly. • Answer questions 31-45, directly on the handout. • Look for and cross out the letters of incorrect answers first.  • On the left side of the questions, WRITE the letter of the correct response. • Do this for every question.
