  1. Technology Overview for Q3/2000 (Click on the speaker icon @ the lower left-hand corner of each slide to hear the audio) Calvin Chen

  2. Agenda • Intel Processor Roadmap • AMD Processor Roadmap • Intel Chipset Roadmap • Microsoft Roadmap • Upcoming Technologies • Q&A Session

  3. Intel Processor Roadmap

  4. Intel Processor Details • Celeron PGA - 66MHz FSB - 128K on-die L2 Cache with 64 bit data path - MMX instruction set • Celeron FC-PGA - Still 66MHz FSB - 128K on-die L2 Cache with 256 bit data path - Based on Coppermine 0.18 core - MMX/SSE instruction set

  5. Intel Processor Details • Pentium III - 100/133MHz FSB - Slot 1 (SECC2) or Socket 370 (FC-PGA) - Based on Coppermine 0.18 core - 256K L2 on-die cache - MMX/SSE instruction set

  6. Intel Processor Details • Xeon “Tanner” - 100MHz FSB - Slot 2 form factor - Available in 512K, 1MB, or 2MB full speed L2 cache - MMX instruction set • Xeon “Cascades” - 133MHz FSB - Slot 2 form factor - Based on the Coppermine 0.18 core - 256K on-die L2 cache - MMX/SSE instruction set

  7. Intel Processor Details • “Timna” - Aimed at low-cost systems and setup boxes - Integrated graphics and Rambus controller - “System on a single chip” design - Based on the Celeron FC-PGA core • “Willamette” or “Pentium IV” - Next generation Pentium III processor - Launching at 1.3GHz or higher with socket 4xx - Rambus support only - 400MHz FSB (quad 100MHz buses) - SSE2 instruction set

  8. Intel Processor Details • Itanium - First generation IA-64 family - New slot M form factor - New tri-level cache scheme - Adding a L0 cache - Up to 4MB of L2 cache - Launching at 1GHz or higher - Will use Rambus or DDR-SDRAM for memory - Will run 32 bit apps in emulation mode, which may impact performance

  9. AMD Processor Roadmap

  10. AMD Processor Details • K6-III - Will be or already phased out - End of lifecycle • “Spitfire” - AMD’s equivalent of the Intel Celeron - 128K on-die L2 cache - 200MHz FSB • “Thunderbird” - AMD’s equivalent of the Intel Pentium III - 256K on-die L2 cache - 200MHz FSB

  11. AMD Processor Details • “Sledgehammer” - Will not be out till late 2001 or 2002 - AMD’s answer to the Intel Itanium - 64 bit processor - Will maintain compatibility with 32 bit applications

  12. Upcoming Technologies • USB version 2.0 - Coming in Q4/2000 - 400Mbps data transfer rate - Currently USB version 1.0 maxes out at 12Mbps • ATA-100 - Coming in Q3/2000 - 100MB/sec for IDE HDDs • SSE2 - Arriving with the “Willamette” processor - Intel’s answer to the Apple G4 Velocity Engine - Essentially, SSE at 128 bit

  13. PREMIO Recovery Solution • Effective April 1, 2000, Microsoft requires all OEMs to use either the HDD or BIOS-locked CD recovery solution • Purchasing have stock enough NT/9x CD to last us three more months • Windows 2000 Pro is already shipping with the HDD recovery solution • We need to decide which solution to use for our NT/9x systems

  14. eSupport Solution • Launched on April 3, 2000 • All system will be preloaded with the eSupport agent • Includes Windows 98SE, NT, and W2K system • Demo of eSupport solution

  15. Q&A Session
