  2. WHAT IS ADVANCED MANUFACTURING? • Advanced Manufacturers use processes and technology that makes them globally competitive. • The efficiency and productivity gained from those processes more than offset the higher cost of U.S. labor.

  3. WEST TENNESSEE ADVANCED MANUFACTURING STUDY • Conducted for 19 counties in West Tennessee • Northwest Tennessee Workforce Board obtained grants and sponsors • Purpose: to find out • Which companies use advanced manufacturing • What types of advanced processes • What types of skills do workers need • Where/how can workers get required skills

WEST TENNESSEE ADVANCED MANUFACTURING STUDY • Reviewed 677 West Tennessee companies involved in some type of manufacturing • Narrowed the list through preliminary interviews and published information • Conducted interviews with companies that showed potential for advanced manufacturing processes • 42 companies were found that currently use advanced manufacturing processes
