Welcome back! With only 24 school days until the AP Exam on May 9, we have approximately three weeks to prepare. Each class will be densely packed with material, and regular homework is expected. This week, we’ll focus on synthesis essays, with new assignments coming up. Next week, we will shift to satire, culminating in a rhetorical analysis essay. By Thursday, please read four assigned pieces and highlight essential quotes. After reading, narrow down to key quotations to deepen your understanding of each author's arguments.

April 7, 2014 • Welcome Back! • We have 24 school days before the AP Exam on May 9. Subtract two of those for scheduling and assume we’ll lose one more to some random weirdness, and we’re left with right at three weeks of prep time. • We have a TON to do in that time. Expect for each class period to be densely packed, and expect to have homework on a regular basis. • This week: Synthesis (You’ll get your synthesis essays back tomorrow and write a new one on Friday.) • Next Week: Satire (Ends with a Rhetorical Analysis Essay)
April 7, 2014 • By Thursday, I need you to read the following pieces. • “Small Change” by Malcolm Gladwell • “Is Google Making us Stupid?” by Nicholas Carr • “The Internet Deserves Its Own Holiday” by Marvin Ammori • “Goodbyes and Grief in Real Time” by Brian Stelter • As you read, select (by underlining or highlighting) quotes that are vital to the author’s argument(s). • When finished, whittle the number of important quotations to 3 each for “Small Change” and “Is Google Making us Stupid?” and 2 each for the 2 shorter pieces.
