  2. Introduction Why is Introduction important at the start of a new class, especially a second language class? (Ball Toss) What are the first questions in an introduction? - - - (practice with a partner- walk around and introduce yourself to at least 2 people)

  4. What are Acronyms? Acronyms: Guess the acronyms in groups What does SEE mean in Portuguese? IW, PW, GW, CW, Ss, Ts, TTT, STT (clues: IW- Individual Work, STT- Student Talk Time…) Groups of 4-5: First group to guess all the acronyms is the winner!

Chapter 1: Me as a language learner Ice-Breakers: Ball Toss: family, friends, favorites, hobbies -Introducing yourself -Complete the question- “What is your favorite____?” -teaching colors (using colors), then on the ball- what the color of the wall, the chairs, etc… Questions: -What tense did we use? Past, Present Perfect, Present? -What tenses can we use?

Ball Toss and other Ice-Breakers Ball Toss: (Aurea) • Hot Potato: pass the ball, with music, when music stops, Ss with ball has to answer the question, use the grammar/vocab, etc… • To find the person/partner: Throw the ball, ask questions, (verb to be)…. • To complete the sentence: sentence on the ball…”My favorite food/color/sport/hobby, etc…is_________” • Geography: Name of continents/countries/cities….(images or words) Chain game: Repeat what previous Ss said…”Her name is Marta, his name is…, and my name is…” (likes/dislikes, hobbies…) Chair change: stand up and change chairs if you………… Non-stop 5 min writing at begin of class (anything…) Conditional questions: “What would you do if…….” (deserted island….won $$.....); match the questions and the answers…and when not matched, funny situations….. Photos/images on walls: Conditional….. Wireless telephone: Repeat what you hear….
