  3. Circulatory • Function: Distributes oxygen, food and hormones to the cells; carries waste to the lungs. • Main Organ: heart

  4. Digestive • Function: Breaks down food. • Main Organs: Stomach, small intestine, liver pancreas

  5. Skeletal • Function: Provides a protective framework for the body. • Main Organs: bones, cartilage

  6. Muscular • Function: Allows the body parts to move. • Main Organ: muscles

  7. Excretory • Function: Removes liquid wastes from the body • Main Organ: kidneys

  8. Nervous • Function: Allows the body to sense and respond to the world around it. Oversees all of the other organ systems. • Main Organ: brain

  9. Reproductive • Function: Allows us to have children • Main Organs: ovaries, testes

  10. Endocrine • Function: Produces chemical messengers that travel through the blood to help regulate some of the organs. • Main Organs: endocrine glands

  11. Immune • Function: Helps body fight off germs and infections • Main Organ: white blood cells

  12. Skin • Function: Protects from sun, wards off bacteria; cools body • Main Organ: skin
