Finding Balance: Navigating Daily Nutrition Challenges

In "What Should I Eat?" by Max Nichols, the author shares insights on balancing daily nutrition needs. With a focus on Omega-3 fatty acids, protein, and non-processed carbohydrates, the book highlights the challenge of meeting a daily calorie intake of 3000. While portion sizes play a crucial role, the emphasis remains on choosing nutrient-dense foods over fast food options. The narrative also addresses the struggle with school lunches lacking adequate choices for balanced meals, urging for positive changes in school meal programs to promote healthier eating habits and reduce food waste.

  1. What Should I Eat? By Max Nichols

  2. According to the Author • At my age some rules laid out in Mr. Weil’s book still apply. • I need to eat a lot of Omega 3 fatty acids and get plenty of protein and non processed carbohydrates. • But I also need to eat a lot more than he recommends.

  3. My typical day • Every day it is recommended for me to eat at least 3000 calories a day. That is as much as a grown man, so getting that amount can be difficult. • So in a typical day I need to eat foods with lots of calories in a large meal.

  4. But Healthy (unfortunately) • Just needing to get 3000 calories a day doesn't mean I should just eat 3 big macs and get it over with. It just means my portion size needs to be a little bigger. • Maybe eating 3 slices of salmon instead of two or having another apple. This is also a really good way to stay overall healthy.

  5. To Summarize • Unfortunately if I wanted to eat better and eat what is recommended like carbs and protein. The choice simply doesn't exist at school. • I believe that this needs to change, sure school lunches have more fruit but the meals usually aren't that good and the fruit gets thrown out. I'm not pretending to know the solution all I know is that something needs to change.
