  2. The Names Christians Wear: SAINT • Many people today think it’s an insult to be called a saint. • Many saying, “I’m no saint….” • What’s wrong with being a saint?

  3. Understanding the meaning of the name • Hebrew: KODESH • Greek: HAGIOS • Primary meaning: Holy, consecrated, set apart for God. • A saint is someone set apart in exclusive devotion to God.

  4. The words are used of: • Individuals • Psalm 106:16 -- In the camp they grew envious of Moses • and of Aaron, who was consecrated (KODESH) to the LORD.

  5. It was used of the TABERNACLE • Exodus 29:31 -- "Take the ram for the ordination and cook the meat in a sacred (KODESH) place.”

  6. The Word is used to describe GOD • Leviticus 20:26 -- You are to be holy to me because I, the LORD, am holy (KODESH), and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own.

  7. The word is used of Christians • 2 Corinthians 13:13 -- All the saints (HAGIOS) send their greetings.

  8. The Responsibilities of the Saints • 1 Corinthians 6:2 -- Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? • Matt. 19:28; Jude 14-15

  9. Saints are to be rooted in love • Ephesians 3:17-18 -- so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ…

  10. We are to be constant in prayer… Ephesians 6:18 -- And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

  11. We are defenders of the faith • Jude 1:3 -- Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints.

  12. We are to be committed to holy behavior… • Ephesians 4:11-12 -- It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up

  13. Ephesians 5:3-4 -- But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. 4Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.

  14. Blessings For The Saints • Ephesians 1:18 -- the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints. • Romans 8:27 -- the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. • Colossians 1:12 -- to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.

  15. Psalm 34:8-9 -- Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. Fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing.
