Literature • Reader Response Guides (RRG’s) are comprehension questions regarding the reading • Literary conventions will be examined • Literary and Historical Background
English • Proofreading (Grammar Exercises) Daily • First five minutes of class • Participation Points for Correct Answers • Essays as assigned
Vocabulary • New Vocabulary introduced on Mondays • Vocabulary Assignments include: • Context Sentences • Definitions • Original Sentences using the Vocabulary Word • Quizzes on Mondays
Homework • Reading will be assigned as needed • Students should be studying Vocabulary throughout the week
Projects • Projects will be assigned at the end of each Literature Unit. • Some Projects will be individual, some may have group project options • All Projects include a writing component • All Projects require an Oral Presentation of 3 to 5 minutes
English 2 Projects • Night Project (Night and Holocaust-themed projects) • To Kill a Mockingbird Project (various options on TKAM and the Great Depression) • Shakespeare Project(projects based upon the play or Elizabethan England) • Lord of the Flies Project (Lord of the Flies-themed projects)
Late Work • I do not accept late work • Daily work or quizzes will not be considered late if the student had an excused absence • Plan 2 Assignments will not be accepted Late for any reason
Absences • The Advanced Organizer is recorded on the “Daily Activities” Sheet (available on-line) • Absent students are responsible for getting and copying all “Daily Activities” and “Assignment Logs,” retrieving the missed work from “The Drawer” and completing it in a timely manner.
Extra Credit • Extra credit is “extra” • Samples: Going “above and beyond,” turning work in early, typing etc. • “Outside” Extra Credit must be discussed with me • Extra Credit will not replace Missing Assignments
Office Hours • Before or after school (7:00 AM to 4:00 or 4:30 PM) • Lunch • By Appointment
Parent Teacher Contact • Grade Check for Parent Signature 6 times this year • Grades are available at snapgrades.com • Fill out the Parent Information Form on my web page • During Office Hours, by appointment, e-mail or phone
