  2. Page Layout • Click Page Layout. • Click Margins and select “Narrow” .5. You may also set up custom margins by click on Page Layout, Custom Margins. • Click Orientation and select Landscape. • Click Columns and select 3.

To Move From One Column To The Next (Inside or Outside of the Brochure) • Click Page Layout on the menu. • Click Insert, Break, and Column Break when necessary. • Begin information for the inside of the brochure. • Insert images/graphics/photographs or pictures as needed. • Save your work on the inside or outside of the brochure frequently. • If you change your mind about text, images/graphics/ photographs, click the undo button immediately to correct the error. It is located in the top left corner. You will probably use the undo button frequently.

View • If your ruler is hidden (cannot be seen), click View and then click Ruler. • To view one page at a time, click View on the menu and select One Page. • To view two pages, click View and select Two Pages. Spelling • Click Review/Drawing Tools/Format • Click Spelling and Grammar in the Proofing area/section. Check your spelling.

  5. Images, Graphics, Photographs or Pictures • Click Insert on the menu to insert images, graphics, photographs or pictures. • Double click the image, graphic, photograph or picture. You should be in the Picture Tool/Format Menu. Locate and click Position in the Arrange area/section. Select from the list. OR YOU CAN . . . • Right click on the image and select Wrap Text next to Position. Make a selection from the list and/or select More Layout Options. OR click Wrap Text in the Page Layout menu and/or select More Layout Options. • Increase or decrease the size of your image, graphic, photograph or picture by using the corners of the selection handles.

  6. Images, Graphics, Photographs or Pictures • To rotate/flip a picture, Click Page Layout/Picture Tools/Format/Arrange and click Rotate. Most of the time you will select horizontal. • To crop a picture (remove unwanted parts), double click on the images, graphics, photographs or pictures click Page Layout/Picture Tools/Format/Size and select Crop. Begin cropping. You can also Crop to Shape. Make a selection from the shapes. • NOTE: You may need to lighten an image, graphic, photograph or picture when you send it “behind text”. Double click the image, click on Correction and make a selection.

  7. WordArt/Drawing Tools/Format • Click Insert on the menu. Locate and click WordArt and make a selection from list. Key/type the word or words. • Change the font, size color etc.: right click on the WordArt box and change the font, font size, font color and gradient, bold, etc. if desired. Note: If the “Move Here” appears and if you want to move the WordArt, you must click on it. • Double click on the corner selection handle. You should see the tab Drawing Tools/Format on the menu. Locate Shape Styles area/section and select Shape Fill, Shape Outline and Shape Effects as desired. AND/OR Select WordArt Styles Text Fill and select Text Outline and Text Effects as desired.

WordArt/Drawing Tools/Format To create a background color: • Locate and click the Drawing Tools/Format • Localthe Insert Shapes area/section • Select the rectangle shape and draw the shape over the entire page. • Right click and select the Shape Fill color/gradient. • Right click, select Wrap Text or Behind Text.

Draw Shapes/Lines, Etc. • Click Inserton the menu, select Shapes and choose from the selection to draw lines, rectangles, basic shapes, etc. • To thicken the line, rectangle, basic shapes, etc., right click. Click Shape Outline and change color of the line/shape. Click on weightand select points.

Picture Tool Bar/Format/Picture Styles • Double click the image, graphic, photograph or picture and make a selection in Picture Styles if desired. • Double click the image, graphic, photograph or picture and make a selection in Picture Styles from Picture Border, Picture Effect or Picture Layout if desired. When you have selected the Picture Layout, you can change the color by clicking Change Color under SmartArt Tools/Format.

Insert/Textbox • To insert or draw a textbox, click Insert, locate and click Textbox, Draw textbox. • Type your text in the textbox. • Double click on the textbox and click Shape Fill, select the color, and select gradient if desired. • Next click Shape Outline, select the color, select the weight and choose points from the selection.

Alignments • Click on Home and make selection from the Paragraph area to complete the following: • Alignments (left, right, center, justify) • Bullets • Increase/decrease indent • Shade • Show/Hide (Show paragraph marks and other hidden formatting symbols) • Line spacing (single spacing, space and half, double spacing, etc.)

  13. Things to Remember • Avoid excessive use of curves (shapes). It takes away from the appearance of the brochure. Keep the look of your brochure simple and remember the target audience. For example: Are you creating the brochure for a business? For example a bank. If so, you want it to look formal. Or are you creating the brochure for teen males/females ages 15 to 19. If so, you want it to fit the interest of a teenager. • Avoid excessive shadowing when using WordArt. It is hard to read and a poor desktop publishing technique.
