  9. PLANNING PROCEDURE II THE INSTITUTE FOR NATURE CONSERVATION (PUBLIC BODY) SLOVENIA FOREST SERVICE (PUBLIC BODY) FOREST MANAGEMENT PLAN PARTICIPATION

  10. NATURE GUIDELINES EXAMPLES • Preservation and regeneration of natural tree species of forest associations. • Artificial regeneration of forests is to be carried out with tree species suitable for the site and only if necessary. • The following should be preserved: - at least 30% share of stands with fully-grown trees, - at least 1-3% share of dead wood mass from total growing stock Guidelines for sustainable forest management Guidelines for minority habitat type • Wood of deciduous trees cut during the increased activities by the Alpine Longhorn Beetle is to be taken out of the forest as soon as possible. • In the Capercaillie's inner zone in diameter of 250-750 m around known leks, quiet zones are to be delineated. • In the White-tailed Eagle's inner zone, quiet zones are to be provided for in diameter of 300 m from the species' known nest-sites, in which selection felling is to be carried out only from August 1st to January 1st, i.e. outside the breeding period. Guidelines for specific characteristics of some species Management limiting guidelines • Wetlands and water surfaces in the forest are to be preserved. • In the area of non-forest habitat types, grasslands located within the forest are to be preserved and overgrowing prevented. • In the areas of transitional bogs, overgrowing with pioneer tree species . • Group guideline for riparian vegetation. 10
