  2. NDT Presentation Outline • Airport Pavement Roughness – to be presented by Dr. Hayhoe following NDT • Nondestructive Airport Pavement Testing Survey Vehicle • High Tire Pressure Grooving and Trafficking • Improvements to BAKFAA • Heavy Weight Deflectometer Roundup Update to Follow this Presentation

  3. Proposed Use of the FAA NDT Survey Vehicle ● The van is being used as a non-destructive pavement testing platform for airport pavement, ● The van is to be used in part to assess new and existing non-destructive airport pavement testing technology and software, ● The van will also be used to acquire non-destructive airport pavement testing data at international and general aviation airports for use at NAPTF and by NAPTF and contractor personnel.

  4. Status of the NDT Van • After final outfitting, the van will have pavement imaging, Ground Penetrating Radar, GPS, and laser profiling capabilities. • The vehicle was purchased in 2009 and delivered in June 2010. • The NDT van was delivered in September 2011. • The vehicle has completed interior modifications locally and imaging equipment has been used to assess CC-6.

  10. Grooving and Trafficking High Tire Pressure (HTP) Area • Construct transverse rectangular and trapezoidal grooves in the HTP area. • Both types of grooves will constructed in heated and unheated sections of the HTP. • Profile before and after grooving. • Continue to profile at frequent intervals during trafficking. • Groove deviations will be monitored by Selcom laser profiles and physical measurement using tape measure and depth gage.

  17. Joint Transfer Efficiency • Approaching • Loaded Deflection at the center of the plate compared with deflection at first sensor behind center (Sensor 3 at Offset=12.00) • Departing • Loaded Deflection at the center of the plate compared with deflection at first sensor in front of center (Sensor 1 at Offset=-12)

  18. Batch Mode Backcalculation • Save calculation results as .csv file • Graphical representation of calculated Modulus by selected record index • Multiple deflection record selection
