  1. The Star needs to not be terribly active so that the planets have reasonable space weatherSo, what is space weather?

  2. Space Weather includes.. the solar corona, the solar wind, the ionosphere and magnetosphere changes on the Sun propagate and can cause changes in the atmosphere, we use “weather”

  3. Our research starts at the Sun In visible light, It’s pretty boring But at UV or X-ray, it has vast changes The largest eruptions are called “CME’s”

  4. A large section of the corona blows off When it goes to the side, it’s easiest to see But it’s not heading to us!

  5. A large section of the corona blows off When it is heading towards us, it expands like a halo And the CCD sees the snow of the energetic particles

  6. The mass of plasma propagates at up to 1000 km per second!(how fast to get here from the Sun?) Modeling efforts are now tying “sun to mud” simulations of the entire system CISM = Center for Integrated Space Weather Modeling

  7. But the Earth and its inhabitants are mostly protected by our invisible force field

  8. When it arrives, it can cause the aurora, and cause major problems for spacecraft and electrical systems
