  1. ECAL DCS status:Readout and cabling (outside ECAL) S. Zelepoukine IHEP Protvino/ETHZ 17.06.2003 S. Zelepoukine

  2. Outline • DCS readout options • DCS cabling (outside ECAL) • Conclusion S. Zelepoukine

  3. DCS readout options – layout CMS balcony PC/PVSS – PTM, HM --------- PLC – TSS ECAL Readout electronics 100 m 5 m Readout electronics 50 m 120 m Counting room USC55 Cavern UXC55 No electronics inside CMS ! (all electronics is accessible – at least during CMS shutdowns) S. Zelepoukine

  4. DCS readout options -- subsystems • PTM – precision temperature monitoring: • Keithley 2750 (DMM + multiplexing): sensor excitation; raw signal measurement/conversion; data acquisition; GPIB/Ethernet interfacing to a PC-PVSS. • ELMB: sensor excitation (separate current source); raw signal measurement/conversion; data acquisition; CANbus remote connection to a PC-PVSS. • [MUX+RBFE] – development cancelled (no exact data for overall accuracy at the time of RBFE ordering – may 2003) • HM – Humidity monitoring: Commercial (or developed in-home) transmitter + Keithley / ELMB. • TSS – Temperature safety system: [MUX+RBFE] + PLC (ADC conversion, data processing, alarm interlocks). S. Zelepoukine

  5. DCS readout– PTM CMS balcony ECAL ELMB + Current src PC/PVSS 2 5 m GPIB or Ethernet 100 m CANbus 50 m Keithley 2750 1 120 m Cavern UXC55 raw signals Counting room USC55 Raw signal: DC, 10 uA (excitation)  ~1.4V at 18oC (100K thermistor)  ~140mV at 18oC ( 10K thermistor) S. Zelepoukine

  6. DCS readout– HM CMS balcony 100 m CANbus ECAL 2 PC/PVSS ELMB transmitter 50 m Keithley 2750 1 100 m 0-5V DC Cavern UXC55 raw signals Counting room USC55 Raw signal: AC, <1 mA / 0.3-1V / ~ 400 Hz (sensor excitation) Transmitter output: 0-5V DC S. Zelepoukine

  7. DCS readout– TSS CMS balcony PC/PVSS 100 m 0-5V DC ECAL Ethernet interlocks MUX+RBFE PLC 50 m Cavern UXC55 raw signals Counting room USC55 Raw signal: DC, 10/100 uA (excitation)  max 50mV (RBFE input) RBFE output: 0-5V DC S. Zelepoukine

  8. DCS cabling (outside ECAL) • Cable lengths: • SM/Dee – balconies in UXC55: 50m for EB (? – to be checked with CMS integration) 70m for EE (? – to be checked with CMS integration) • Balconies – counting room in USC55: 100 m (? – to be checked with CMS integration) • Radiation resistance – PE cables can safely be used. • Cable type – STP (shielded twisted pair); 0.09 – 0.13mm2 • Grounding – cable shield grounding point ?? S. Zelepoukine

  9. Conclusion • Urgent– define cabling and patch panel connectors for EE (installation early 2004). • PTM has different cabling (balcony – counting room) depending on electronics choice. solution: all sensor signal cables go to the balcony; then either analog cables (to keithley) or CANbus (to PC). • Readout electronics – will be tested in H4 in summer 2003. S. Zelepoukine
