  2. Session Outcomes • Participants will understand the N.C. Digital Teaching and Learning (DTL) Standards and define the new DTL licensure renewal requirement for all NC Teachers. • Participants will examine the Cumberland County Schools CTE DTL Standards implementation.

  3. Digital Learning Competencies (DLCs) for Teachers • Informed by International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL), and the NC Professional Teaching Standards • http://www.dpi.state.nc.us/docs/dtl/digitallearningnc/competencies/teacher-dlcompetencies.pdf

  4. Required for Licensure Renewal • Approved by SBE 6/1/2017. • All licenses expiring 6/30/2019 and beyond. (See SBE Policy LICN-005) • Requires 2 DLC CEUs for teachers. • LEA determines whether or not a professional development activity qualifies for DLC credit.

  5. Renewal CEU Requirement • Teachers in grades 6-12 with licenses expiring June 30, 2019 and beyond must have: • 3 Subject Area • 2 Digital Learning Competencies • 3 General

  6. What are the DLCs? Four focus areas for teachers: • Leadership in Digital Learning • Digital Citizenship • Digital Content and Instruction • Data and Assessment

  7. DLC District Teams • Meeting since 2016 • Train the trainer(s) approach • Guide implementation in the district • Single focus area • Multiple focus area • Self select is an option • DPI has virtual courses available

Dissecting your LEA • Review the components of the Digital Age Learning Model • Grab a partner and discuss each component of the model, rating your LEA’s progress in each area (5 = our LEA could create a how-to video about this component; 1 = our LEA needs to watch many how-to videos about this component) • Go to www.menti.com to record your LEA’s rating.   13. Application of the Digital Age Learning Model and the Digital Competency for Digital Content & Instruction • The expected best practice is that “Teachers will know and use appropriate digital tools and resources for instruction.” (Look-for’s)

  14. Application of the Digital Age Learning Model and the Digital Competency for Digital Content & Instruction • Digital Competency is a subset of the focus area to help explain or “unpack” the Focus Area.

  15. Application of the Digital Age Learning Model and the Digital Competency for Digital Content & Instruction • Student centered instruction - combining large group, small group and individualized learning, with teachers serving as facilitators and coaches.
