  2. ABC Poem • A series of lines that create a mood, picture, or feeling. • Lines are made up of words and phrases. The first word of line 1 begins with an A, the first word of line 2 begins with a B etc. • Example: A lthough things are not perfect
Because of trial or pain
Continue in thanksgiving
Do not begin to blame
Even when the times are hard
Fierce winds are bound to blow

  3. Alliteration • Repetition of the same or similar sounds at the beginning of words such as tongue twisters like 'She sells seashells by the seashore’ • Example I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street

  4. Couplet • Stanza composed of two rhymed lines in Iambic Pentameter • Example: O could I flow like thee, and make thy stream
My great example, as it is my theme!
Though deep, yet clear, though gentle, yet not dull,
Strong without rage, without o'erflowing full.

  5. Haiku • Japanese Poetry • The Haiku we will be using is three lines, the first with five syllables, the second line with six syllables and the third line with five syllables (5-6-5) • Example: Oh great mocking bird, sing me a song of love, for I am in need

  6. Cinquain • 5 lines based on the number of syllables or words: 1) the title
2) a description of the title in 4 syllables or words
3) a description of the action in 6 syllables or words
4) a description of the feeling on 8 syllables or words
5) another word for the title in 2 syllables or words

  7. Diamante • Diamond-shaped to show growth or movement from one extreme to another: noun adjective adjective noun noun noun participle participle participle adjective adjective noun

  8. Autobiographical • Write a poem about yourself! • Or you can make one about your favorite character real or fiction • Line 1: First name
Line 2: 3 characteristics or physical traits
Line 3: Brother or sister of__ [or son/daughter of] 
Line 4: Who loves__ __ __ (3 people, things, ideas)
Line 5: Who feels__ (1 emotion about 1 thing) 
Line 6: Who needs__ __ __(3 things)
Line 7: Who gives __ __ __(3 items you share)
Line 8: Who fears__ __ __(3 items)
Line 9: Who'd like to see__ (1 place, or person)
Line 10: Who dreams of __ (1 item or idea)
Line 11: A student of__ (school or teacher's name)
Line 12: Nickname__ [or repeat first name]

  9. Free Verse • Be Creative!! • Just let your emotions travel to your paper • Your Project is due on the last week of class • I will provide class time once every other week for you to work on your project
