  2. Poetry is a major type of literature. There is no single, unique characteristic that all poems share. Poetry does not always have to rhyme or have rhythm. An anthology is a collection of poems or stories, usually written by a variety of authors. Content knowledge

  3. Students will explore the genre of poetry focusing on its content, style, voice, and beauty as an art form. Students will write original poems to demonstrate their understanding. Main Idea

  4. Have a title. Capitalize main words! Put title in “Quotations” Capitalize the first letter in every line! Don’t center it! Click on left margin. Name, Date, Period on the front of each poem. Rhyme Scheme: AA BB CC ABAB Poetry notes

  10. One might say that I’m a red hot tamale, a green pepper, an explosive finale. Another might notice I’m a blue ocean flowing in the breeze, drifting for a good wave. One might comment that I’m a green tree, deep roots grounded, and ready to grow free. Another might observe that I’m a lotus flower, softly and gentle, colorfully placed in a garden. I personally believe that I’m a colored painting of art, a Technicolor pallet smeared across a sea of dreams pushed apart. The colors of my life/ Blue Ocean

  15. 6. Figurative Language – Simile: Uses like or as She is like a tiger on the court. Metaphor: She is a tiger on the court. Alliteration: Sam sat still so Sid could study. Onomatopoeia: Words/ Sounds Buzz Hyperbole: Exaggeration: She had a cow Idiom: Don’t mean literally what you say: Ex. Piece of cake. Freedom of Expression, Baby!
