Why ?! • Why do they need light? • - Gives a sense of security •     - Light offers safety for women •     - Warding off wild animals •     - Night schools in Nepal use lamplight  •     - Huge manual cottage industry (also by night) •     - Electricity cuts •     - Cannot afford external lighting source •     - Not connected to grid price of product rises with distance from urban areas

  4. Need Identification Current problem Supporting day-to-day living activities in rural and urban areas of Nepal through a low cost lighting solution. Additionally formulating a rapidly adoptable and sustainable business model. Consequences  • - Primary • _ Life is more challenging • _ Affects health • _ Lack of hygiene • - Secondary • _ Limit activities - social and professional • _ Electricity theft

Mapping out ideal need and Perimeter of ambition • - Accessible/affordable light • - Low maintenance - Replace kerosene - Increased security

Next Phase • - Potential partnership meeting with KirkonUlkomaanapu • - Contacting Nepal Polytechnic Institute – identify other distribution channels • - Meeting with other component manufacturers (PV cells, diodes) • - Concepting and prototyping • - In house testing and expert feedback session • -Gather business intelligence, ongoing research • On going conversation: • - Meeting with Akkuvoima (battery manufacturer) • - Establishing network with Nepal Polytechnic Institute and other foundations on similar issues.
