  3. Sometimes though, schools are not safe.Sometimes bad guys can get into a school. This bad guy may want to hurt people. How can you tell if a person is a bad guy?

  4. Look for the clues:they are a strangerthey may be running through the hallthey may be yelling or acting angrythey may have a gun.

  5. What should you do if you see someone in the hallway that you think doesn’t belong in your school?

  6. Quickly tell a teacher, another trusted adult, or go to the main office.

  7. If a bad guy gets into a school, the principal will call a “Lockdown.” Lockdown means that all students must stay inside their classroom with the doors locked.

  8. If you are not in your classroom when a lockdown starts, go to the nearest teacher right away even if it is not your own teacher. Listen to the teacher’s direction. Teachers will help keep you safe. Be completely quiet in a Lockdown.

  9. In a Lockdown, the police will drive fast to the school to stop the bad guy.

  10. Sometimes a kid is the bad guy. Usually when a student wants to hurt other kids, it’s because the student may have been bullied for a long time. Sometimes kids who have been bullied will bring a gun to school.

  11. If you hear someone say that they want to hurt someone, you must report it right away!Tell a parent, a teacher, another trusted adult or call 911.This will keep your school safer than if you did not tell. This is always the right thing to do.

  12. Reporting a threat does not make you a tattletale, it makes you a HERO.

  13. You have the power to keep your school safe when you tell adults what you know.
