Understanding Averages: Mean, Median, Mode, and Range Explained
This guide explores four essential concepts of averages in statistics: mean, median, mode, and range. The mean is calculated by adding all numbers together and dividing by the count. The median is the middle value in a sorted list, while the mode refers to the most frequently occurring number. Finally, the range is determined by subtracting the smallest value from the largest. This breakdown simplifies these concepts for better comprehension. For further learning, watch the accompanying video.

Presentation Transcript
Mean • The mean is the average, where you add up all the numbers and then divide by the amount of numbers e.g. 5+3+4+2+1= 15 15/5=3 so the mean is 3
Median • The median is the middle value in the list of numbers. To find the median, your numbers have to be listed in order, so you may have to rewrite your list firste.g. 1,2,3,5,4,5,6 the median 5
Mode • The mode is the value that occurs most often. If no number is repeated, then there is no mode for the liste.g. 5,8,9,4,4,3,4 4 comes up the most so the mode is 4
Range • The range is the difference between the largest and smallest values. 10,5,3,7,6,1 10-1=9 so the range is 9
