  3. What is General Education? • The general education Core Curriculum at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is a set of courses required in all colleges and majors.   4. Who decides on GE courses? • The General Education Committee reviews, develops, and recommends policies regarding general education to the Committee on Academic Affairs and Standards.   5. What are our requirements? • There are 41 credit hours required • Courses are included in the areas of humanities, arts, social studies, biological and physical sciences, while teaching competency in the areas of technology, communication, critical thinking, and analytical skills.

  6. English Composition - 6 ENGL 101 and 102, or 115; ESOL 101, 102 Mathematics - 6 MATH 100, 102, 105, 107, 109, 143, or 270 and one other course from: MATH 110 or 206 and above or STAT 214 or above Social/Behavioral Science - 6 (with 3 credits at 200 level or higher ANTH (any course), ECON (any course), GEOG (any course), POLS (any course), PSYC (any course), SOCI (any course), CJUS (any course) Natural Sciences - 9 BIOL (any course), ENVS 100, 150, 280; PHYS (any course),CHEM (any course), GEOL (any course) Literature - 3 Any course in ENGL or MODL that focuses on literary texts, i.e., poetry, fiction, drama, or the essay; does not include linguistics or language courses. History - 3 Any course in HIST except 490 Communications - 3 CMCN 100, 101, 212, 202, 203, 302, 310; ENGL 360, 365; THEA 261 Arts - 3 DANC 101, 102, 113, 114; DSGN 121; MUS 100, 104 (309), 108 (303), 109 (304), 321, 322, 323, 324, 325, 326, 364; THEA 161, 261; VIAR 120, 121, 122 Information Literacy - 2 UNIV 200 Specific Requirements

  7. Changes to Arts GE courses • Some colleges were allowing certain courses, and disallowing others. This became problematic with change of majors. • The courses were chosen based on the ability to assess the student learning outcomes.
