College Admission TestingSAT • SAT (7 National Test Dates) 3 Sections: Critical Reading, Math & Writing Each scored on a scale of 200-800 New redesigned SAT coming March 2016 • SAT Subject Tests (test subjects vary based on 6 National Dates) 20 content-based tests One hour in length • PSAT/NMSQT (11TH grade test) October 15, 2014 Preliminary SAT National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test when taken as an 11th grader Advise 10th grade students to consider taking it New redesigned PSAT coming Fall 2015

  5. College Admission TestingACT • ACT (6 National Test Dates) Consists of 4 tests: English, Math, Reading & Science Reasoning Writing test is optional Each test is scored on a scale of 1-36 • ACT Aspire (10th grade only) April 2015 Practice ACT

  6. Optional College/Career Testing • Advanced Placement(AP) Exams Spring testing(May)/scoring scale is 1-5 • Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery(ASVAB) October 28, 2014 (during school day)

Steps for Freshmen/Sophomores In/Out of School • Plan & set goals for rigorous curriculum considering your strengths and weaknesses • Stay focused on academics and improve QPA • Meet with your school counselor • Stay involved in school activities/clubs/community service • Take advantage of any leadership opportunities • Begin/continue to keep track of your activities/achievements resume

Standardized Testing • Create your own testing plan: consider registering for the PSAT & ACT Aspire • Take advantage of testing companies websites for free SAT & ACT prep. • Visit http://www.khanacademy.org/satfor additional SAT prep College Exploration • Explore colleges on the Web & use college and career search programs in Family Connections http://connection.naviance.com/senecavshs • Visit colleges if you can/attend college fairs

Steps for Juniors In /Out of School • Continue to pursue rigorous curriculum • Study time should increase as you improve QPA • Stay involved and become a leader in school activities/clubs/community service • Continue to add to your resume • Attend Spring Planning Appointment w/school counselor Standardized Testing • Follow through w/testing plan; take the PSAT; register for SAT and ACT • Use test prep resources such as http://www.khanacademy.org/sat & the test company websites • Register for SAT Subject Tests and Advanced Placement exams in the spring if appropriate
