  3. Diseases of the Respiratory System Asthma, one of the most common diseases in of the respiratory system affects 25 million individuals in the US, 7million of which are children, causing: • Airway constriction • Wheezing • Can be fatal

  4. What are the triggers of asthma?? • Allergens (Dust, Mold, Pollen, Pet hair/dander) • Viruses • Exercise • Smoke

  5. Asthma Attack • Exposure to triggers can cause asthma attacks, causing severe breathing problems and airway constriction

  7. How to Treat Asthma • Inhalers (Albuterol, Flovent, Advair) • Nebulizers (Albuterol, epinephrine) • Avoiding triggers • Monitoring lung capacity with a spirometer
