Terminology • Consignee • Person or firm to receive a freight shipment • Bill of Lading (B/L) • Shipping document for materials and products • Identifies shipper and consignee for a shipment • Provides a description of the shipment • Customer Order Notification Form • Used to alert DC of external customer order

Terminology (Cont.) • Internal Product Requisition Form • Used to alert plants of a subassembly requirement at the DC • Bill of Materials (BOM) • List of all materials and their quantities required to produce a single unit • Third-Party Logistics (3PL) Provider • Organization that specializes in managing logistics operations for firms that choose to outsource these functions

  4. Preliminaries • The exercise will run for 7 days, each day lasting 7 minutes • ALL communication between groups is to be accomplished via email slips • Carry products and email slips to 3PL and communications groups, respectively, when their services are needed • Be sure to prepare appropriate forms for orders and shipments (e.g. B/L, purchase orders, internal requisitions, etc.) • All relevant deadlines and quantities are printed in each group’s instructions and supporting materials
