  1. 2011/2012 Kentucky Bluegrass Award Nominees Tina Poindexter, LMS Grayson County Middle

What is the KBA? • Each year about 10 books for grades 6-8 are nominated by Teachers and Library Media Specialists across the state. • The selected books are chosen carefully to ensure a wide variety of topics and genres to appeal to middle school students. • Students at each school vote for their favorites and the results are sent to the Kentucky Reading Association by April 1st. • The state-wide winner is then chosen.

  3. Why should students participate? • The KBA promotes reading. • Students are exposed to various genres. • Students use critical thinking skills to assess the books. • Students can give feedback and opinions.

Where can I find these books in the Library Media Center? • The books are displayed at the library entrance. • We have purchased 5 or more copies of each book. • We do have Playaways for some of the books. • Most books have a waiting list so put the ones you want on “Hold.” • All of the books have a spine label like the picture below with 2011/2012.
