  1. Relationships

  2. Definition of relationships • a: a state of affairs existing between those having relations or dealings <had a good relationship with his family> • : the relation connecting or binding participants in a relationship: as a romantic or passionate attachment www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/relationship

  3. Healthy relationships vs. unhealthy relationships • Healthy Relationships: • Communication and sharing with each other • Respect and trust toward each other • Signs of a healthy relationship: -You feel good about yourself when you are around that person • Equal amount of give and take within the relationship • You should feel safe and be able to trust that individual

  4. Unhealthy relationships • Sign of an unhealthy relationship • Make you feel sad, anger, or scared • There is unfair balance between give and take. You find yourself doing more for the other person then they give to you • Does not include trust or respect.

  5. Types of relationships • Family • Friends • Dating • Marriage

  6. Family relationships • We have a connection with our parents and our siblings. • We go to them when we are in need of something or someone to just turn to for advice

  7. Friend relationships • Teens social relationships typically start to change • At some point in time, males and females begin to look to people of the opposite gender for close bonds. • Their first link is through friendship • Females and males can learn about each other without the strains of a more serious bond such as dating. • These conversations help them understand both males and females better. What they learn will be useful when they eventually move on to romantic relationships

  8. Dating relationships • Most relationships start out as friends and then move to a more serious relationship • Two people who don’t make good friends probably wont be able to build a successful romantic involvement • The age of readiness for this isn’t the same for everyone • Some are interested in dating in their teens, yet some are not ready until much later.

  9. Marriage relationships • Your connection with your husband/wife • Being able to solve problems that will arise as a couple • Some couples don’t choose a marriage partner very wisely or they speed up the process because they just want to be married.

  10. Stages of dating relationships with the opposite gender • Meeting • Dating

  11. Meeting • Determine if there is enough chemistry, commonality and interest in wanting to take the friendship to the next level • All individuals will repeat the meeting stage many times before and after they date a particular person • Be yourself : )

  12. Dating • Want to spend all your time together • People often describe this stage as feeling as if they are floating on cloud nine • Sometimes not all relationships will work out and may dissolve after awhile. • Or they last for a very long time
