  1. An improved version of the GOES Sounder retrieval algorithm is being implemented (in McIDAS), and put to the test, before going to “ops”. Current GOES Sounder products may offer a practical, realistic estimate of how relevant the GOES-R “legacy Sounder” products requirement may be for end users (NWS forecasters). Betterupper layer Better lower layer Insuring incorporation of improvements to the GOES Sounder vertical profile retrieval algorithm into NOAA/NESDIS operations Author(s): Gary S. Wade, Zhenglong Li, James P. Nelson III, Jun Li, and Timothy J. Schmit Is the implementation correct? New (Li 2008) version vs Old (Ma 1999) version GOES retrievals compared to radiosondes (00UT 22 Sep 2009)
