SLO Notes Military Child Education Coalition [MCEC] Trainings will be held in Atsugi at Convention Center 11-14 Feb: Student 2 Student trains students and S2S sponsors in supporting students as they transition in or out of high school. 18-19 Feb:Supporting Children Through School Transitions: 50 Participants: guidance counselors, administrators, (teachers), community 20-21 Feb: Junior Student 2 Studenttrains students and JS2S sponsors in supporting students as they transition in or out of middle school.

Old Business Bus Safe Havens- Concern was raised by DoDEA transportation regarding lack of identifiable safe havens for students out in town while on buses should there be an earthquake or other catastrophic event. Mr. Lindaman the CFAY Emergency Management Specialist has worked with local officials to identify approved havens. Per Mr. Lindaman the plan is in place at this time and city safe havens may be used by the students. Item: Closed

  10. Action Items • CFAY legal would review the legality of including links to the Military Child Education Coalition on the CFAY site. - Completed; is allowed 2. Ms. Russell was to arrange an ad hoc meeting with NAVFAC, DoDEA, and school administrative officers to clarify maintenance issues. – Completed meeting held 18 Dec. at Sullivans 3. Ms. Russell was to determine the authority of the COMPACFLT request for SAC and IAC minutes. – Completed; request was unofficial 4. Ms. Russell was to follow up on status of Kinnick marching band request to be considered and “official” co-curricular program by DoDEA. – Ongoing: issue is being re-submitted as stand alone issue to DEC 5. Ms. Russell was to check with Mr. Lindaman on the status of the bus safe havens agreement. - Completed

  11. Action Items 6. Ms. Russell was to post the IAC meeting power point on the SLO webpage. –Completed 7. Ms. Russell was to connect Chief Terry with Shelia Keeton KHS school administrative officer regarding the upcoming tsunami drill. –Completed 8. Ms. Russell was to set up a meeting with Ikego Elementary and various base agencies to plan for the transition to the new school. – Completed 1st meeting 15 Jan, more to follow 9. Ms. Russell and Ms. Baxter Oakley were to coordinate events marking the closure of Byrd and issues and concerns with a smooth transition to Ikego Elementary. - Ongoing- will be continued with Dr. Reginelli and a closing committee: PTO/SAC leaders, teachers, OIC, USO 10. Ms. Lee was to get further information about the Sullivans SAC computer concerns from the district educational technologist. 11. Ms. Lee was to put Ms. Getschman in contact with DoDEA officials reviewing DoDEA KPASS participation.

  19. The Sullivans School School Advisory Committee news, concerns, comments? • Technology: There is concern that our students are not getting the same experience with interactive technology, such as i-pads and personal communication devices because of the security limitations regarding outside equipment, memory sticks and photo devices. • Maintenance: The building has a growing number of needed repairs. At this time the base is fixing requests that are being funded by DoDEA. However, at this time DoDEA is only funding repairs that concerns immediate health and safety. • JDAC: The Sullivans School would like to discuss a procedure for next school year with the other complex schools concerning recommending a JDAC representative to the District Office for the Yokosuka Complex.

  21. Ikego Elementary School School Advisory Committee news, concerns, comments? • Community Bike and pedestrian safety before and after school. Ikego Elementary is working with the OIC and security to promote safe travel to and from school.
