  2. A team …. • Has two or more people • Has a specific performance objective or recognizable goal • Requires coordinated activity to attain the goal or objective

  3. Team Development Wheel • Teams typically go through a series of stages while learning to work together collaboratively • Time in any one stage varies • 4 Stages: • Forming • Storming • Norming • Performing

  4. Team Effectiveness • Pseudo-team • weakest of all groups • no interest in collective performance • Working group • more effective, but focus is on individuals. No one takes responsibility for results of others • Potential team • similar to working group, but not clear about group purpose, goals • Real team • members have complementary skills; committed to common purpose; members accept mutual responsibility • High-performing team • same as above, but members also committed to each other’s personal growth and success • transcend the team; outperforms similar teams; outperforms expectations

  5. Eight Characteristics of Effective Teams • Clear goal/purpose • Results-driven focus • Competent members • Unified commitment • Collaborative climate • Standards of excellence • External recognition and support • Principled leadership

Team Roles • Resource and Library Coordinators (2) • thorough library searches; collect and organize articles • Writers (2) • Clear, organized writers (Intro, Methods, Results, Discussion) • Review articles (use forms); make outlines; organize articles into clear, cohesive, persuasive argument for Lit review/Disc • Editor (1) • APA expert; good writer • Data Analysis Coordinator (1) • good with statistics or understanding of stat concepts; primary person to interact with statistician
