Thurs 8.25.10 • STANDARD 1: Scientific Process • I will learn how to LLCCC & be introduced to the scientific process • That the #1 prescribed drug in the world is penicillin… • That the #1 drug people are allergic to is…. Penicillin!! • That you can die from an allergic reaction to antibiotics!

  5. Locate the title The title of a passage tells you the topic and focus of the passage. Box in the title of the passage

  6. Label the passage • Is it Narrative(a story), Label it an “N” • or aPoem ? “P” • Informational, Label it an “I”

  7. Code the Paragraphs Markparagraphs as you read to help you answer questions...

  8. Informational Passages (Non-Fiction) • CODE each paragraph using one or two words to summarize the paragraph Code = summarize with key words to the L or R of paragraph

  9. Narrative (Story) Passages…this is the same as Fiction • Circle characters’ names • Underline important details settings, symbols events,

  10. Poems • Circle the emotions in the poem. • Circle the subject of the poem. • Circle the speaker (narrator).

  11. Cover the distractorswhen answering the questions • Coverthe choices with your hand • Readthe WHOLE question • Thinkof your own answer

  14. What is a “Performance Check”? .. It is basically a ‘grade’ of your daily performance i.e.did you do the work or not?? It lets me know (& your parent/guardian) know how you are doing over time It is partial evidence that you are prepared (or not) for a MiniSummative or MAJORSummative It also allows me to look back at the end of the quarter so I can decide if I want to round your grade up… or… down

YOUR JOB TODAY • Read the LLCCC article, “The Methods of Biology” • LLCCC it…. • We have already located the title • We have already labeled the passage an “I” • YOU NEED TO CODE THE MAJOR PARAGRAPHS = write 3,4,5 key words/phrases to the left of the paragraphs • Answer the questions on 2nd page • Practice first few paragraphs 
